Created in 2022 by Lauriane Heim and Johan Viladrich, Heim+Viladrich is a Montpellier (FR) based studio with as main practice the creation of objects-centered installations, scenographies, and interiors.︎︎︎
Curves, radius, chamfers, galvanized steel, glass, and aluminium: the work of Heim+Viladrich draws inspiration from the industrial details that shape our environments. Trained as designers, Lauriane Heim and Johan Viladrich use and reconfigure the signs of standardization into objects and installations. Their work, both functional and sculptural, borrows elements from industrial cultures, mass consumption, and everyday scenes such as waiting rooms or highway rest areas.
Both Lauriane and Johan graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven and have been collaborating since 2021. After several years in Rotterdam (NL) they relocated their studio to the south of France in 2022. Since then, their practice has evolved in two directions: the development of scenographic projects and installations, design research and the creation of self-initiated works often in limited editions or unique formats.
Their spatial practice is characterized by an affinity for the anonymous aesthetics of mass production. The duo explores how materials and industrial processes can be used to generate bold and optimized installations. For their self-initiated works, they focus on the physical aspect of objects and their relationships with the contexts from which they are extracted. Their interest lies in unnoticed, even banal, details that form the ordinary scenes of life.
